Last week, I had the pleasure of running around New York City! On my first day in the city, I stopped by my favorite store – Lomography to drop off film for developing. Yes, I still use film and I love it. After looking at the new camera gadgets, I then made my way down to SoHo. I’ve eagerly been awaiting the opening of the &Other Stories in our nations capital, but rather than continue to wait, I decided to see what was in the NYC store. After spending a substantial amount of time wandering through the store, I walked out with two pieces – a gorgeous lace top and a really cool ring. For the most part, the clothing was just one size too big for me. I am rather petite so I find it hard to find clothing in my size. After my &Other Stories adventure, I continued to walk down the street, eventually stopping at MNG by Mango, Bloomingdale’s, Sam Edelman, and French Connection. Overall, I did not see anything I liked and was seriously disappointed by the quality of the clothes being sold for close to (or over) $100. I prefer to buy items in-store primarily because I like to feel the fabric and know the quality of the garment. Currently, I feel like the trend is to offer consumers low quality clothing at a high price. It really drives me crazy.
After spending the day shopping, I headed back uptown to have dinner and drinks with a friend at one of my favorite NYC restaurants! Every time I go to this restaurant, really fun things happen and this time was no exception. On this visit, my friend and I ended up hanging out with some of the members of The Roots. The guys were all incredibly down to earth and a lot of fun. It was one of those things that really only happens in New York.
The next day, after grabbing breakfast I embarked upon the real reason for my NYC trip – the U.S. Open. Every year I go to the US Open to cheer on all my tennis favorites and get my giant tennis ball signed. Sitting courtside, I watched some amazing tennis matches, including the loss of Mugurza and a win by Rafael Nadal. I was also present for the first ever closing of the roof over Arthur Ashe stadium! One of those things that is only cool to us tennis buffs. The next day, however, nearly all of the matches for the day session were rained out until the evening session and I really had no interest in sitting out in Queens all day in the rain so I opted to spend the day in the city with one of my good friends.
By the time I returned on the train Friday, I was exhausted. However, I had no time to waste – four of my college friends were headed to DC to celebrate our other friend’s graduation from her PhD program. Needless to say, it was a bit of a whirlwind of a week, but it was also a whole lot of fun!
