In September of last year I attended Crafty Bastards Arts and Crafts Fair at Union Market, an exhibition and sale of handmade goods from independent artists presented by the Washington City Paper. A few friends were going so I offered to drive and we headed over. While I browsed many stands, including one from a former Project Runway winner, only one really peaked my interest – Mint Lola.
A Little About Mint Lola
Mint Lola is a Washington D.C.-based company that creates hair adornments and jewelry. While the company primarily focuses on hair adornments for weddings, it also makes traditional headbands and hair accessories, in addition to rings, necklaces and bracelets. The designer and founder, a lovely woman that I talked to for over an hour, has a true gift and her pieces are truly marvelous.
I am a huge proponent of the crown aka a fantastic or bejeweled headband. We all know the right earrings, necklace or bracelet can really finish off an outfit by giving you that polished look. Well, I believe the same holds true for the right hair accessories – a headband or even just hair pins can really dress up an otherwise standard outfit. As such, I want to showcase a few of my favorite Mint Lola pieces.
How to Order
I purchased all of the pieces shown within the past few months so, if you are interested in purchasing any of the below OR would like the company to create a piece just for you, simply email info@mintlola.com. Each item is handmade so you have the freedom to customize or design a piece to suit your particular needs.
My Three Favorite Hair Adornments
Oh, and just in case you were wondering, I have jewelry from Mint Lola too; I am just sticking to hair accessories to save time 🙂
My Grecian Crown
I call this my Grecian crown because whenever I wear it, I feel like I am channeling my inner Greek goddess!
What Girl Doesn’t Need Hair Pins
These were just funky and I simply could not resist buying the pair!
Headbands Are Crowns Too!
For those moments where my Grecian crown simply will not work, I opt for a bejeweled headband, which can easily be worn to work.
