Holiday Perfections

by Adriel S

My mood

I cannot wait to spend the holidays with my family. I am so looking forward to sitting in front of the fireplace, drinking hot tea and laughing with my Mom, Dad and younger brother. I am so very fortunate to have a wonderful family full of highly intelligent people that love and respect each other. Our Christmas tradition usually entails opening presents, watching movies, an argument over a Scrabble word (usually it is NOT a word) and, of course, multiple rounds of Mario Kart Wii! I love these silly moments with my silly people. Every single year I do my best to be present – to make note of all the little details because despite my wish, we will not always have this time together. Eventually, these moments that I hold so dear will be fragmented and broken up by commitments to spouses and children and the realities of our ever aging bodies. Thus, I choose to value these moments, to view each holiday through an unrealistic lens of perfection, and to focus on loving the people that make my Christmas holiday a lovable moment. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas — I am taking the rest of the week off and will see you next Tuesday!

My style

You may have noticed that I tend to use the word “love” a lot when I describe the clothing that I wear. I use that word because I only buy items I love so I really do love every single piece in my closet. And, this skirt and top are two of my new “loves!” I purchased them as part of the H&M x Kenzo collaboration last month. I really enjoy skirts that have a little pop and flounce when I walk, something about that just makes me feel young, vibrant and sexy. I am currently really into matching the top and bottom of my outfits, so I did just that for this look. It almost looks like a dress, but of course, I have the benefit of being able to mix and match the skirt and top. There actually isn’t any fuchsia in the skirt or top; in fact, the lines you see are orange and blue. However, since orange and blue result in fuchsia when mixed, I decided that these suede shoes from JCrew (circa 2013) would really make the outfit pop. Naturally, black tights pull the outfit together and keep my legs warm for these colder days.
