Temperatures have finally dipped out here on the East Coast. With gray, rainy skies expected for the next week, I’ve finally decided to get ready for fall. With that said, here are my top 3 tips for getting fall ready!
Identify My Favorite Trends and See What’s Already in My Closet
One of the great things about fashion is that every trend comes back around again. This year, the big clunky shoes from high school and the block heels from college are all back in style. Fortunately, I rarely giveaway shoes so I have a pretty good collection of shoes to already pull from. But, I also still have plenty of velvet, paper bag waist pants and Cher-like skirt suits still hanging in my closet from the first time those trends came around. Now, what items are missing from my closet that used to be there — well the number 1 item is a choker! I owned so many of these as a cool 90’s girl and it is essential I buy another. I’m specifically enjoying this Eddie Borgo Extra Thin Safety Chain Choker!
Find Any Gaps in My Classic Styles Before Adding Trendy Pieces
There are multiple trendy styles that I am really loving. I am particularly enjoying the bell sleeves trend, however, before I go out to buy even one trendy item, I plan to first ensure I do not have any gaps in my classic – timeless pieces. Most recently, I realized that I did not have a simple tan blazer. Odd, right? I have a blazer in almost every other pattern and color, but I do not have a single tan blazer. Fortunately, J Crew was having a sale a few weeks ago and I managed to pick-up the warm camel Regent blazer. A perfect addition to my closet and definitely a look that will last much longer than one or two seasons.
Donate/Consign Anything I No Longer Use Or Have Not Used (or Worn) In Two Years
A change in seasons is always a great time to donate or consign any old clothing or donate household items, decorations or books. I buy way too many books (yes, I actually purchase actual books) and I recently decided to sell a few to a used bookstore as a way to deal with my hastily growing reading collection. When it comes to clothing, I tend to look at the item and decide whether I have worn it in two years. If I have not worn it, I instantly put it in the donate pile. When it comes to general household items, decorations and books, I tend to decide if it fits my current style and whether I have used it for the past two years. If it does not fit the current version of myself and my style, then I just donate it.
