Latest Pickpocket Scam on RER B – Airport Route
Recently, I was on the RER B on my way to Gare du Nord. I was reading an article on my phone, but even when reading, I remain aware and alert regarding what is happening around me.
I noticed a man and woman with luggage at the end of the train car. I did not pay much attention to them, but I did see them look down the train car at the open seats across from me.
The seats on the RER B line are positioned in sets of four. I was sitting in the seat closest to the aisle with my luggage. My Longchamp tote bag was resting atop of my luggage. The man and woman sat down in the two seats closest to the aisle in the set of 4 seats positioned next to me.
I noticed that the man was carrying two small luggages. He had to lift both luggages to reach the seats across from me and I noticed that he seemed to lift them quite easily. When the man and woman sat down, I looked up at both of their faces but did not lift my head – just my eyes. The woman was staring at my Longchamp, perched on top of my luggage. The man was staring at my Longchamp too. The woman then glanced at the man. They were so busy looking at each other and staring at my bag that they did not notice I was looking at them.
Immediately, I stood up and looked both of them in the face as I grabbed my Longchamp tote in my hands and then moved myself and my bag towards the doors. It was only in that moment that the man and woman finally looked at me.
Be wary of couples, even if they have luggage, they may be a part of a pickpocket team. These two were clearly.
Bus Drop Off after 10pm
The city of Paris is testing a new safety measure. Basically, you can request the bus driver to drop you in between two stops along the route. There are certain conditions to this such as the requested stop must be along the actual bus route, it must be in a well-lit area with pedestrian access, and you must descend at the front door of the bus.
A link to an article giving more information about the new program is HERE. You can Google translate it. However, I personally think this is a really great safety measure to implement.
